Gold Coast Airport & Getting Around

Gold Coast Airport (OOL) is located in Coolangatta, at the very southern end of the coast — handy if you're staying nearby, less so if you're headed to Surfers Paradise or further north, where the drive can take 30–45 minutes depending on traffic.

From the airport

Options from Gold Coast Airport include rideshare and taxis (available outside the terminal), airport shuttle bus services that run to the main tourist suburbs, public buses, and rental car desks on site if you'd rather have your own wheels for the trip. Many visitors flying into Brisbane Airport instead connect to the Gold Coast by train or coach — it's a viable alternative, particularly for northern Gold Coast suburbs.

The G:link tram

The G:link light rail is the easiest way to move between the coast's central and northern suburbs without a car. It runs from Helensvale in the north, through Southport, Main Beach, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, down to Burleigh Heads in the south. It doesn't reach the theme park precinct or the southernmost suburbs (Palm Beach, Currumbin, Coolangatta) — you'll need a bus, shuttle, rideshare or car for those.

Buses

TransLink buses cover the suburbs the tram doesn't reach, including the theme park corridor and the southern beaches down to Coolangatta. Combined tram-and-bus tickets (using a Go Card or similar contactless payment) are the standard way to pay.

Driving & parking

A rental car gives you the most flexibility, especially for Hinterland day trips and reaching the theme parks without relying on shuttle timetables. Parking is generally available but can be paid, particularly in Surfers Paradise and at the theme parks — factor that into your budget.
