Broadbeach
A short tram ride south of Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach trades some of the buzz for tree-lined streets, a serious restaurant scene and a genuinely relaxed beach.
Broadbeach sits directly south of Surfers Paradise and feels like a different suburb entirely — lower-rise, leafier, and built around Kurrawa Park and a genuinely excellent strip of restaurants along Victoria Avenue and the Oasis precinct. It's an easy tram trip from Surfers Paradise, so you get the best of both without having to choose only one.
The beach
Broadbeach's patrolled stretch of sand is wide and generally calmer than the Surfers Paradise beach further north, with grassed picnic areas backing onto it at Kurrawa Park — a good spot for a sunset walk or a family afternoon that doesn't involve dodging nightclub queues later on.
What it's known for
Food, mainly. Broadbeach has one of the densest concentrations of good restaurants and cafés on the coast, from casual noodle bars to fine dining. The Star Gold Coast casino and entertainment precinct anchors the northern end of the suburb, and the Pacific Fair shopping centre — one of the largest on the coast — is a short walk or tram stop away.
Should you stay here?
Broadbeach is a strong pick for couples, older travellers, or anyone who wants Surfers Paradise-level convenience without the nightclub noise. It's slightly less central for theme park day trips than Surfers Paradise, but the difference is minor given the tram and shuttle connections.
Getting there
The G:link tram stops at Broadbeach North and Broadbeach South, putting the whole suburb within easy walking distance of a station. It's about 20 minutes from Gold Coast Airport by car.
