Carrara

Carrara is not a beach-holiday suburb, but it has two of the Gold Coast's biggest inland visitor draws: People First Stadium and Carrara Markets. If your itinerary includes a Gold Coast SUNS home game, a major concert, cricket or a weekend market session, it is worth understanding Carrara before you arrive because event-day transport works very differently from an ordinary suburban visit.

People First Stadium: what it actually hosts

People First Stadium, at 296 Nerang Broadbeach Road, is the home venue of the Gold Coast SUNS for AFL and AFLW and also hosts concerts and other major sporting events. It is not the home ground of the Gold Coast Titans NRL team — the Titans play at Cbus Super Stadium in Robina. That distinction matters when booking accommodation or transport, because the two stadiums are in different suburbs.

Getting to a major event

For large events, follow the stadium's event-specific instructions rather than driving toward Carrara and hoping to find a space. People First Stadium says there is generally no public event parking at the venue, with surrounding restrictions in force. Event arrangements can include free shuttle buses from Nerang train station, Boowaggan Road Park 'n' Ride and Broadbeach South tram station.

For eligible events, ticketholders may also receive free travel on regular Queensland Rail services (excluding Airtrain), G:link trams and Kinetic buses within the published event window. Smaller fixtures can use different arrangements — some AFLW events, for example, have had parking available but no dedicated shuttles — so always open the page for your exact event.

Drop-off, rideshare and accessibility

The stadium uses designated pick-up/drop-off arrangements that can change with traffic management. If someone is collecting you, agree on the official zone rather than a nearby residential street. Accessible parking is limited and may require advance purchase for particular events. Anyone with mobility requirements should check the stadium accessibility page before buying parking or assuming a shuttle will meet their needs.

Carrara Markets

Carrara Markets are separate from the stadium and have their own identity as a large permanent weekend market complex at the corner of Gooding Drive and Manchester Road. The market's current published hours are Saturday and Sunday, 8am–3pm, with free entry and free parking; the Sunday car-boot sale starts earlier. That makes it easy to spend a few hours browsing stalls, produce, clothing, homewares and second-hand goods without needing an event ticket.

The market complex also has family attractions and food options, but the appeal is the scale and variety rather than a polished boutique-market atmosphere. If you are specifically going for one stall or attraction, check its own hours because individual operators can differ from the general market opening.

Can you combine the markets and a stadium event?

Sometimes, but do not assume the logistics will be seamless. Weekend market traffic and major event traffic can overlap, and event-day parking controls around the stadium are stricter than ordinary Carrara parking. Check start times and transport notices first. If a large match or concert is on, public transport is usually the lower-stress choice.

Should you stay in Carrara?

Carrara can be convenient for an early market visit, a late concert finish, golf, or a multi-day sporting event. For a general Gold Coast holiday it is less compelling: the suburb is inland, spread out and car-oriented, without a surf beach or concentrated nightlife strip. Broadbeach gives you much more holiday atmosphere while still providing a useful event-shuttle connection from Broadbeach South for many large stadium events.

Nearby places worth knowing

Nerang is the nearest major railway hub and is useful for event shuttles and Hinterland access. Bundall and Broadbeach sit to the east, while Robina — home of Cbus Super Stadium and a major shopping/rail hub — is further south. Keeping those names straight prevents a surprisingly common mistake: booking near the wrong Gold Coast stadium.

How long to allow

Carrara Markets can fill two or three relaxed hours. For stadium events, build in extra transport time and arrive according to the event guidance rather than at the advertised first bounce or show time. Security screening, shuttle queues and post-event traffic are all easier when you are not working to the minute.
