Robina

Robina sits inland behind Miami and Burleigh Heads. Its identity is built around Robina Town Centre, Robina station, Bond University's broader catchment and the stadium precinct. That means it is less scenic than a beach suburb but often easier for very specific trip types.

Why travellers use Robina

The strongest reason is transport. Robina station is on the Gold Coast heavy-rail line, with services toward Brisbane and the airport rail network, and it is also a substantial bus interchange. If you are combining the Gold Coast with Brisbane or arriving by train from farther north, Robina can reduce a lot of backtracking.

Robina Town Centre

Robina Town Centre is one of the city's major shopping centres, with supermarkets, retail, food and indoor entertainment. It is useful in bad weather and for practical errands that are harder in a small beach village. It also means a Robina stay can be very self-contained even though the suburb has no ocean frontage.

Stadium and event stays

Robina is home to the major stadium precinct used for professional sport and large events. On event days, staying nearby can be smarter than commuting back to the coast after the final whistle. Check event-specific transport arrangements because extra services and traffic controls can change normal patterns.

Getting to the beach

Robina is inland. Miami and Burleigh Heads are the nearest practical beach areas, but the exact travel time varies with traffic and your starting point. If you plan to swim every morning, stay on the coast instead. If beach visits are only one part of a wider trip, the trade-off may be worthwhile.

Bus connections to the coast

Route 750 currently links Robina station and Robina Town Centre with Broadbeach via Bond University, and several other routes connect Robina with coastal and inland suburbs. The southern network is changing from 7 September 2026 after the G:link extension: Translink is introducing route 701 between Elanora and Robina and shortening route 765 so it runs between Christine Avenue and Robina rather than duplicating the tram south of Broadbeach.

The future Robina–Miami link

Queensland's current Gold Coast Transport Plan also identifies a future high-frequency, 15-minute metro-style service between Robina and Miami. That is a planned project, not a service you can use today, so do not confuse future network maps with current public transport.

Should you stay here?

Robina makes sense for event visitors, train-focused itineraries, shoppers, families who prefer apartment-style accommodation and travellers who value easy parking over beachfront atmosphere. It is a poor fit if the whole point of your Gold Coast trip is to walk from your room to the sand.

Robina vs Broadbeach

Broadbeach wins for beach access, restaurants and direct tram travel. Robina wins for heavy rail, the stadium and big-centre convenience. Route 750 connects the two, so a split itinerary or day trip is straightforward.

Robina vs Varsity Lakes

Both are inland and rail-oriented. Robina has the larger shopping and event infrastructure; Varsity Lakes is more residential and university-adjacent. If you are choosing purely for public transport, compare the exact accommodation to the station rather than choosing by suburb name alone.

Airport access

Gold Coast Airport is south of Robina. Driving is straightforward outside peak traffic, while public transport usually involves bus connections. If your flight is very early or very late, a southern beach suburb such as Tugun, Bilinga or Coolangatta is usually more convenient.

Practical tips

For train journeys, check the live Translink timetable because service patterns vary by day and maintenance. For events, look for special transport advice before setting off. And if you book accommodation marketed as "Gold Coast" without checking the map, remember that Robina is deliberately inland — that is either its practical strength or its main drawback.
